Camp Hurlburt is an embodiment of the outdoor ministry at Trinity United Church, Vernon.
The Camp currently offers summer program camps where children can explore, learn, experience and come to know that God’s love is always with them.
They are invited to come just as they are, make friends forever, and grow in relationship with God from deep within their heart. Children have found that when the adventures on the beach are finished for the day, they will discover they are at a place where
- you can ask any question, even when there may not be an answer...
- all are encouraged to be all of who you are and all that you can become...
- people play with you, learn with you, and create with you...
the Spirit of God hangs in the air like the needles on the pine trees...
Groups of all kinds have come for rest, fun and relaxation. Camp Hurlburt’s ministry is a very significant part of Trinity’s Vision for the future, and are currently in the conceptual planning stages for the rebuild of the Camp site. Romanian Orphans
Receiving an email in 2004 which told about a Foundation that was created by Dwight Delong from Washington state, was a significant event for Lorraine Thompson. The email initiated a trip to Romania with long-time Trinitarian Betty Chenoweth-Leduc where for two months in March 2005 they volunteered to care for abandoned children (from newborns to 3-year olds) at a children’s hospital.
Dwight’s foundation, called ‘inbrate’ – meaning “in arms” – has grown so that he is able to hire Romanian women to be with the babies 12 hours a day. He is also able to supplement their food supply. In addition to directly assisting the children, the Foundation has expanded their compassionate service to slowly improve conditions in the Gypsy villages where most of the children originate. The Foundation now sees volunteers and funding coming from Holland, England, Canada the U.S.A.
Trinitarians have continued to assist with this project with generous gifts of money and supplies since 2005. Trinitarian direct service also continued when Lorraine returned for 6 weeks in March 2006 and with Helen Brandt and Ann Simonski volunteering in September 2006 for two months.
The stories of the children all have the same theme … they are all beautiful and are all immediately loved by their caregivers.
Trinity has been blessed by having Dwight and his wife, Mirela, visit Trinity in April 2007, and Dwight again in April 2008 to express their gratitude.
