Weddings
At Trinity, we believe weddings are a time of public worship at which couples make sacred promises with one another and with God. A marriage is a covenant relationship between God and a married couple. A wedding is a time when a couple affirm, celebrate and make room for God’s presence in their lives and when families and friends acknowledge their role in the covenant by committing to celebrate, affirm and support the couple in their marriage. And to this end, Pre-Marriage Preparation is a requirement for all couples who wish to be married through Trinity United Church. Please contact the church office for more information at 250-545-0797, Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Baptisms
Baptism is a visual symbolism of our response to God’s grace .. we are saying YES to God.
The sacrament of baptism is an initiation into the path of discipleship and into the Christian Church community. Please contact the church office for more information at 250-545-0797, Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Communion
Through the planning of the Chancel Guild group, people attending Sunday morning service at Trinity are invited and welcomed to participate in communion. At the communion table, we acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the host and all are guests.
Communion is celebrated at a table that suggests the dining table in our homes. The United Church invites all who seek to love Jesus to share in this family meal.
Trinity offers two methods of serving communion – one, by individual glasses and plates of bread served while the congregation is seated in the pews and the second is by intinction – the servers are at the front of the sanctuary and the congregation comes forward to receive the bread and to dip it into a goblet of grape juice.
Adult & Youth Confirmation – Transfer of Membership – Re-affirmation of Faith
From time to time, Trinity makes it possible for people to express their Christian faith publicly and to join the church through baptism and affirmation of faith (which we have known as confirmation). In addition, there are those whose memberships in the United Church have not followed them to Trinity and are seeking ways to reaffirm their commitment to the Christian path.
For youth in grades seven and up, the bulk of the program takes place during Sunday School. In the past The Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg has been the basis of study and a special program of study is provided for those who are re-affirming their baptismal vows.
Funerals/Celebration of Life
At Trinity, funerals/celebration of life are a time when we affirm and support the family as they gather to mourn, celebrate and share stories; and to acknowledge that funeral services are more for the living than for the dead.
Funerals/celebration of life are a time to affirm that death is not the end and to give praise to God, celebrate God’s gift of life, specifically the life of the deceased. We explore how God is revealed in the life of the deceased.
Through the proclamation of the death and resurrection of Christ, our message is one of hope in our own dying and death.
